This is my Aunt Rose with her beloved irises, holding her precious Pomeranian, Sammy.  She was full of life and loved a good laugh.  Her kitchen was filled with wonderful aromas of her famous Butterscotch brownies, and if you arrived around dinner there was “none of this microwave nonsense”.     Aunt Rose was known for her story-telling abilities, and I attribute her for passing this trait to me. 

 

I moved in with Aunt Rose in 1997 to take care of her after she had a nasty fall.  I promptly became her full-time caregiver and soon was managing all her affairs, taking her to doctor appointments, getting prescriptions refilled, preparing meals, keeping the house and yard in good condition, arranging her legal affairs, and dealing with the myriad details of daily living.  Eventually I had to administer her estate after she passed away in 1999.

 

This experience provided a unique insight into the delicate and difficult situations facing caregivers, be they siblings, children, or friends.  Every day presented new challenges when caring for my Aunt in a compassionate manner which allowed her to retain her personal dignity, independence, security and more.

 

Wondering what to do with this new found knowledge, finding others in similar circumstances, and realizing I could help meet this very real need, I decided to offer others the benefit of my experiences. 

 

I formed Mama’s Movers to help others dealing with the many details and complexities of organizing, managing and even liquidating someone else’s household, belongings and affairs.  I have since helped many families: moving to new locations, downsizing and  transitioning parents and loved one into Assisted Living, Nursing Homes, etc.

 

Remembering the isolation I experienced as caregiver, and realizing the extra help needed by his clients and their families, I am constantly building an ever-growing network of professionals: Estate Attorneys, Social Workers, Home Improvement Contractors, Doctors, Therapists, Nurses and many more.
